Sreyoshi Guha Thakurta, a Kolkata based freelance writer, has had a horrible experience while having a ride with Uber. In her Facebook post, she has written:
This is to bring to your notice the abusive behavior of an Uber driver my friend, Debolina and I booked.
We requested for an UBER Pool at around 8.15 PM standing right in front of the Fab India at Hindustan Park. He arrived after a few minutes and we made it clear to him that our destination would be Acropolis Mall in Kasba. We also asked him to drop Debolina a stop or two before Acropolis-he agreed and did drop her there.
I was supposed to get down at Acropolis and I politely asked him to cross the road and park the car so that it is easier for me to get down. Take note, I did NOT ask him to drop me home, that is a 3 minute walk from the main road.
To this he reacted very badly saying, “Jeta amar location dekhabe ami sekhanei drop korbo. Apni ekhanei neme jaan.” (I will only drop you as per the location I am seeing. You need to get down here itself.)
I clarified that I wanted him to cross the road and NOT drop me home.
This time the driver, Dilip, burst out saying, “Apnar ja chera’r chire nin. Apnake ekhanei namte hobe.” (*Cuss words loosely translating to Go fuck yourself* You need to get down here itself.)
This really angered me so I told him that I am going to compliant against him and I am not going to rate him properly. To this he said something angrily which I do not recall by words, but it boiled down to do something with the fact that he does not care amount my complaint or the rating.
Without further arguments I paid him in cash and got off and in a fit of anger I slammed the door shut.
But this was not the end of everything.
He called up my friend Debolina saying, “Khanki magi, tor baap’er dorja ta orokom kore bondho korish. Tor bari toh dekhe nilam, lok diye uthiye nebo.”( You whore! Go shut the door like that elsewhere. Now that I know where you stay I will make sure I have men pick you up.)
This is the first time I am facing such an issue with Uber and to be honest, it is kind of surprising. Uber too, is not much keen on looking into this matter immediately. But what angers me the most that he had the balls to call up after I paid him and left and say such horrible things to a customer.
This kind of an abusive behavior must be reported and I feel, people should know about this. This only shows how callously Uber is handling complaints regarding such serious issues concerning customer service. And as for the driver, he’s definitely going to face the music when we lodge a Police complaint tomorrow.
